Human Layer Security

A digital brand identity for Human Layer Security — a grounds-up reimagining of the IT security professional’s print magazine for the 21st Century — taking form in an interactive website, trailblazing online community, and email newsletter about the changing world of cybersecurity.

Human Layer Security is the philosophy of practicing cybersecurity with a distinct focus on people: Security Managers, Employees, Civilians, and Attackers. Powered by machine learning to automatically detect the mistakes or malicious behaviour of people using digital systems, this is the leading idea behind Tessian’s platform and commercial success. Founded in 2013 as an alternative voice to the rigidly corporate cybersecurity space, the Sequoia-backed company sees Human Layer Security as the next big paradigm in enterprise security — a category-defining move that demands a completely new way of thinking in the cybersecurity mind.

Human Layer Security is an online magazine and thought leadership hub built to bring security, business, compliance, and risk leaders together into a single digital community to welcome the next age of cybersecurity. Powered by contributions from industry leaders, our identity fuses long-form articles with beautiful illustrative artwork into an interactive and visually arresting website. Working with 10 illustrators from The New York Times, New Yorker, and The Guardian, the team tied a patchwork of illustrative styles to an electrifying brand palette and bold typography.

The Cube forms a cornerstone of the Human Layer Security identity, being the main navigational element as you enter the website. Hovering over each face presents an array of articles to read and share — pasted with rich illustrated artwork. In other brand activations, the cube becomes an ownable motif — authors are framed in profile, and social posts are identified with a bold pink cube. Alongside an interactive website, deliverables included email newsletters, social activations, and merchandise.

The ownership of Human Layer Security positions Tessian as a market leader following a successful $72M Series C from March Capital and places them in an enviable position — at the helm of the most exciting shift in cybersecurity for many years to come.
